David Francis

David Francis (actra, caea & uda)

After taking a B.A.degree in languages at McGill University, David Francis trained as an actor at LAMDA in England and later at Shakespeare and Company in Massachussetts. He lived and worked in the U.K. for 20 years in theatre companies in London, Exeter, Canterbury, Sheffield, Birmingham, Lincoln, Coventry and toured the length and breadth of England. Scotland and Wales. Acting took him equally to the Continent - France, Germany, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Sweden and more recently he has spent several winters with the Bhopal-based Naya Theatre touring the Indian subcontinent north-east-south-and-west in English and Hindi.

Since returning to live in Canada, David has worked across the country and in the U.S., being centred at various times both in Saskatoon, from which for many years he toured the show PAPER WHEAT which he helped collectively to create; and Calgary, where he most enjoyed working with W.O.Mitchell on the original productions of THE BLACK BONSPIEL and THE KITE. He also authored a one man play about Stephen Leacock which he toured for many years and is now based in his home town of Montreal where he works equally in English and French in film, television, radio and theatre and where he won critics choice awards for both SLEUTH and PASSION PLAY. David is currently enjoying his eighth season at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.

All-time favourite events: crossing the Himalayas on foot and filming the series NAPOLEON on the remote South-Atlantic island of St. Helena.
