Cary
Lawrence (actra, caea & uda)
Cary Lawrence was born in Montreal and
moved to Ottawa shortly after the October Crisis of 1970. Cary doesn't
quite know how she fell into the performing arts other than the fact that
both her parents were lovers of the arts. But indeed she did and has never
looked back. As the youngest of three older brothers, the notion of play
was always solitary but the imagination was always huge. Cary officially
became interested in theatre in her high school years spending her lunch
hours huddled in a dark theatre room creating spoofs on highschool life.
But it was in University where she found her calling. There, Cary performed
in a variety of theatrical mediums. After graduating from Bishop's University
in 1986, she ventured to Paris, France to further her education in the
two year program at Ecole Jacques Lecoq. She returned to Canada in 1990
to make Montreal her home.
Largely a character actor Cary has ulitilized
accents in the numerous roles in made for TV movies. Having spent 4 years
in France, Cary is completely bilingual and has crossed the linguistic
barrier on occasion performing in French features, mini series and tv
episodics. She lends her voice to the radio and can be seen in many television
adverts. But the theatre remains her passion even if only to visit the
stage once yearly.
Cary lives in Montreal with her writer
husband and two girls, Paige and Georgia. While the thought of moving
to the UK to work (she has the papers) always tickles her fancy, Montreal
provides her with a dual market, that being in French and English. Her
home away from Montreal is in a tiny village in southwestern Scotland,
and if you press her, she might even don that most difficult of accents,
the Scottish brogue. |
