Giovanna Carrubba - (actra, caea)

Giovanna got both her B.F.A and D.E.C. in theatre performance at Concordia University and John Abbott College respectively. Upon graduation she performed two back-to-back seasons with Youtheatre playing in Lord What Fools, Trolls of Trenholme and Twelfth Inning. She then landed Daisy in Centaur’s production of Biloxi Blues under the direction of Maurice Podbrey. Afterwards she played Liliana in Vittorio Rossi’s The Carpenter also at Centaur Theatre. Most recently, Giovanna was in A View From the Bridge directed by Diana Leblanc at the Segal, she played the role of Beatrice.
In Alberta, Giovanna performed in All Over The Map, Lunch, Saltwater Moon, Family Life and Still. She co-wrote, co-produced and co-starred in The Tit Show which ran originally at the Edmonton Fringe ‘92 followed by the Catalyst Theatre, Calgary’s Lunchbox Theatre, The Up Front Theatre Festival (Toronto) and Theatre Network (Edmonton) winning the double Sterling Award.
Giovanna has also worked extensively in film and television. Notable credits include The Dead Zone, Mambo Italiano, 2000 & None alongside John Turturro, My Friend Ana, The Red Violin and Are You Afraid of the Dark? Her voice has been heard in numerous C.B.C radio dramas, voice overs and Cinar productions.
Giovanna was nominated for a Sterling Award for Theatre Popicos Les Petits Pouvoirs. She directed Dieu et la Grenouille and assistant-directed Hopeless Love (music video), The Messiah (Theatre Network), Death and the Maiden and Romeo and Juliet (Centaur). |
